PALM BAY® INTERNATIONAL Alta Vita Cannonau di Sardegna 2024 BACKGROUND Alta Vita, meaning “high life” in Italian, is a tribute to the rugged beauty, ancient rhythms, and legendary vitality of Sardinia. These are wines born from grapes cultivated by dedicated growers across the sun-drenched island — families who specialize in the iconic Cannonau grape along with Vermentino. By blending the time-honored tenets of Sardinian viticulture (passed down from generation to generation) with a modern, mindful approach to winemaking, Alta Vita wines are an open invitation to wine curious consumers who prioritize quality, authenticity, exploration, and the art of drinking better. TERROIR & VINTAGE NOTES Vines for Alta Vita are planted on clay-loam with a schist/rocky base, which helps retain just enough moisture and has a moderate nutrient count, which helps moderate vine vigor and concentrate grape flavors. Long, sunny, arid, and extremely warm growing seasons, along with reliably dry harvests, minimize disease pressure; the island’s prevailing winds ventilate the canopy and contribute the salinity and minerality that make great Sardinian wine truly one-of-a-kind. WINEMAKING & AGING The team hand-harvested grapes in 20kg lots at peak ripeness — staged across late September into October to guarantee optimal quality. Temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks held the must for a 28-day fermentation, drawing out rich color and aromatic depth from the skins. The wine aged for six months in 225L French oak barrels (2nd and 3rd passage) to build complexity and balance between fruit intensity and subtle spice notes. After bottling, the wine rested in the cellar for two months under temperature and humidity controlled conditions before release. TASTING NOTES Deep ruby red in the glass with purple glints. Aromas of vibrant red raspberry and crushed black plum alongside hints of spice open up to a heady and plush palate. Look for juicy, ultra-ripe notes of roasted summer strawberries framed by a nervy minerality and a lift of freshness on the lingering finish.
